What is the best free x264 avi (or similar format) converter?
I try to play HD movies on my Xbox 360. Problem is that the 360 does not sound too well with one of the x264 libraries, including H.264. I tried several converters but none of them seems to support all codecs in the library of x264.
Take a look at Any Video Converter. It is an easy to use program that converts almost all formats to any format. And yes, it's free.
Converting H.264/AVC, MOV files to WMV, MPEG, MPG, AVI for playing on an Xbox 360 or Windows Media Player?
Hello,
I have a Casio Exilim S-880 which records High quality video in the H.264/AVC,MOV format. The Xbox 360 cannot play this type of file. So, i’m trying to convert it to a file it can play, such as mpg, mpeg, avi. It appears to me as though the audio (AVC) in the file is causing the problem. Becasue the xbox can play H.264 Mpeg-4/A3C files. And since my camera records in H.264 Mpeg-4/AVC in .MOV container, I still cannot play. Only plays in Quicktime. Let me know if you can offer any help.
You can access the specs on my camera and video details here: http://www.casio.com/products/Cameras/Exilim_Card/EX-S880BK/
Thanks
Download the (FREE) encoder below. Works great and you can experiment by making many different file formats.

Ever since iPods have been introduced, their popularity has been on the rise. There are a number of different types available with different storage capacities. Portable media players are useless if the data on them ever becomes inaccessible. iPod data is vulnerable even when you have problems with iTunes. Whenever anyone gets a new storage device, the first thing one is advised is to take a back-up of whatever is stored on it. No matter how many back-ups you take, in dire circumstances we tend to panic. If your back-ups are inaccessible for some reason, use a recovery software and reclaim your data.
One of the most common error messages one sees is:
“iPod Service Error”
Cause:
The reason behind such kinds of error messages are mainly:
-the software is corrupted
-device-interface errors
-software conflicts
-windows does not recognize the iPod
Since iTunes is the interface between the computer and the iPod, this error message means that iTunes is not functioning properly. (This error message is only seen by Windows users. Mac users should not face most of the above problems since both have been manufactured by the same company.)
Resolution:
You can resolve the above problem by un-installing and then re-installing iTunes. Although your data is supposed to remain safe during the process, ensure you have a back-up of your iTunes data. This is just in case for some reason you do need to recover iTunes data.
To un-install iTunes:
Go to Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs. Then choose iTunes from the list and press Remove.
Restart the computer. In the drive where the OS is installed, delete the iTunes folder. Then in the iPod folder, delete the “BIN”. Empty the Recycle Bin. Restart the computer again. Download iTunes, and the iPod Software.
Your iPod should now connect to the computer and iTunes properly.
If the above method does not help, try changing the system configuration settings. If during any of the steps, you lose your iTunes/iPod data, you can retrieve it using iPod recovery software available on the Internet.
Stellar Phoenix iPod Recovery, is a utility tool, designed to scan iPods to recover iPod data. The software supports iPod Classic, Nano, Shuffle, and Mini. It also supports MIDI, OGG, AVI, MOV etc file formats, thus making it possible to recover all types of data. You can also view a thumbnail preview of the recoverable files.

Windows Movie Maker – How to convert files to .wmv
Many Videophiles want the best DVD playback experience as possible on their PC’s. This is done by upconverting a standard DVD format into a HD format such as 1080p. High definition DVD is the next logical step of the current DVD format 720p. Because of new codecs and software it is possible to upconvert standard DVD 720 into 1080p.
In other words, high definition DVD’s aim is to provide 1080 lines of video resolution, compared to the 576/480 lines presently offered by the actual DVDs.
Now why would you want to watch a DVD in HD form? For the same purposes why you prefer DVDs over the old video tapes. For starters the picture is sharper, crisper, for a more realistic experience. For me anything that can enhance picture and audio quality is a major plus. PowerDVD 9 is by far the best way for this experience on a PC.
Keep in mind that HD discs (Blu-Ray) will be the format of choice a few years from now. But what will be the destiny of the present DVDs? It does not mean that you need to replace your entire DVD collection. Certain standalone DVD players and PowerDVD 9 for the PC offer the best upconverting picture quality possible for standard DVD’s. This feature will later be used for all high definition DVD players. Although this upscaling operation will not provide the same ‘unforgettable experience’ as high definition movies, it will allow the existing DVDs to be shown in their best possible way, without losing any resolution.
In conclusion, high definition DVDs represent the future of home video display. Be sure to use PowerDVD 9.
