Unfortunately, Sony may discover that this Walkman might not be able to compete with the iPod Video on price. Apple’s 30GB iPod Video can be found on the Internet at prices as low as £150, where as the NW-A808 8GB Walkman retails at best at £179.99. Although people with smaller music collections may well have more money spare, the compactness and guaranteed uninterrupted playback of the Walkman cannot possibly win over such a large saving per GB. The iPod’s inferior battery life may also play into the hands of Sony, as well as the extra file format compatibilities, but it is hard to imagine that there will be many people who are willing to pay over the odds for portable MP4 video players at this early stage of the market lifecycle. Clearly, Sony is betting a lot on the early adopters.
In terms of accessories, Apple has captured the imaginations of many other manufacturers, and there exist plenty of add-ons and spin-offs to keep the savviest happy. These range from portable speakers and skins to audio pets and body straps, and are all designed with the same quirky looking panache that is synonymous with the iPod. Sony have announced that there will also be plenty of accessories available for the new MP3 player, but it’s likely that there will not be the same adulation and take up from third party manufacturers that is afforded to Apple. With Sony’s design also aiming at a more sophisticated ‘cool’ look, it might also be harder for designers to create anything that can really compliment the player. Sony’s previous insistence on imposing its own formats and standards hasn’t always endeared itself to the general public, either, so this count against the take up for third party produced gizmos. But by incorporating the standard drag and drop method for playing MP4 and video files, this may take Sony into more popular light. Too help boost their presence, they have also launched a MySpace page to encourage a more approachable persona.
Cracking the MP3 player market is already difficult enough, with other brands like Creative and Samsung holding positions below Apple. Sony’s history in the portable player market has carried it well into the digital age, but now they find themselves playing catch up against considerably larger odds. Advocates of Sony’s innovation and build quality will be more than prepared to pay for this new MP3 player and that may be enough to ruffle Apple’s feathers. As credible an achievement as this would be, Sony are likely to be unsatisfied with this, and they will hope that the NW-A 800 range is a step to regaining the market leading position.
SONY MP3: Unable to transfer more tracks in Sonic Stage – “Device/Media is full”.?

I have a sony MP3 player which operates with the SonicStage software. I have transferred about 40 tracks onto the player from my CDs but am unable to transfer any more – the message in Sonic Stage reads “Cannot transfer any more tracks. The memory of the device/media is full.” I don’t understand this as the Device/Media info shows 6.1 MB available. Can anyone offer any advice?

have you got songs on there, that you didnt use sonic stage to put on,
becasue when i first got mine, i tried to put tracks on using windows, but it would play on the player, but it was still taking up space,
so put in the player, and then open it using my computer, and see if there are woindows tracks on there, then you can delete them, and put them back on using sonicstage
Google’s Android operating system originally designed for phones and eventually tablets and netbooks has broken off of the mainstream Linux kernel. There are enough changes that are being made that Android has “forked” the kernel and aren’t using the most up to date Linux kernel with no real indication that Android ever will be. What does this mean for the future of Android and Linux working together?
A fork happens quite a bit with open source software. Everyone has access to the code. At some point in time one group moves in one direction with the code while another group does something else. The intention is generally to stay together but at times for various reasons this does not happen.
While it is nice that Google picked to use Linux as the base, it doesn’t seem that their intentions were to contribute to the kernel over the long term and develop with the Linux community. It seems that previous version of Linux was just a good starting point for their project to build the basic operating system on.
This means that as of right now it doesn’t look like Android and Linux will be working together. There still are applications that can be shared and possibly drivers, but Google is large enough to pave it’s own path if need be with enough programmers to patch up any issues as time goes on.
It should be expected that this would happen eventually because Android doesn’t really need many of the kernel updates since it’s currently running on very limited hardware.

good day all well im here to find out what is the best linux out there,, im really new to it all.. im really plain when it comes to software,, and the net,, all i do is browse the net, but also use alot yahoo messenger, and interested in downloading lime wire..what special linuxs are there and what would they be best used for.. aloso thinking of getting or downloading a photo editing program for pictures..and will it be hard to find software for my mp3 players to connect to it..
also how do i make a cd to down load it from the web site ,,, i tried it and cant seems to make it into a cd,, i know its a lot so i was wondering if some one can tell me step by step,also what is the difference between in making a bootable disc and a audio disc..

There are literally hundreds of versions of linux available, but for someone new to linux I would suggest Ubuntu because it is fairly easy to install, has excellent documentation (which you must read to have trouble free use) and lots of people who use it and can help if you have any questions.
Ubuntu has messengers that work as well as yahoo, and also bittorrents. Gimp is a good photo editing program along with some others. The ipod does not work with linux but you can use mp3 players.

Another issue to look at is the interfaces. Most other MP3 manufacturers get along with one interface, but iriver uses three of them: to transfer audio, WMP or Windows Explorer needs to be used, with WMP needing to be used for transferring playlist files; when transferring videos, Windows Explorer is used, with a new joint venture between them and Microsoft to tranfer video to the U10 via WMP; and to transfer photos requires resizing the images in PicturePlus (installed with the computer) and transferring them onto the player.
Next is the very unfriendly navigation system that does nothing to compete with the iPod clicking wheel feature. To be able to navigate through the iRiver U10 video player you must be a little more on the “techie” side and that eliminates a vast majority of the pop culture market. Their goal seems to be to find out if the consumer wants battery life, easy of use, or a lot of space. It will be interesting to see their next step.
Simple “background” mp3 playing software?
I-tunes is great to manage an entire library, complex playlists, etc, but if you have just a couple songs you want to play you gotta setup a playlist… and it loads slow.
Windows media player works great for manually playing a few files at once, but is also used for videos so I find myself having to restart my music every time I need to see a video, which is alot.
Soo, anyone have recommendations on simple mp3 playing software… perhaps something that mostly runs as a taskbar icon?

Puppy Linux is a very small linux distribution available for free download. The size of the download image is just a little over 100 megabytes. As a comparison, I think all of my windows computers load up at about 20 to 35 gigabytes. I was intrigued with the concept of having a distribution that I could run on any computer just by carrying the CD and a tiny zip drive for any files I needed.
My main requirement was that I be able to use this as a working computer. I was not interested in just another geeky toy. I turned on my laptop, inserted the CD, and waited to see what would happen. In a few seconds, the system booted and I had a nice looking desktop with 17 icons in the upper left quadrant.
file – A click here popped up all my directories similar to explorer.
help – A nice introduction to Puppy with links to specific subjects.
mount – A place to see all the mounted drives, the hard drive, usb zip, and the CD.
install – A simple package manager to install lots of additional packages. I was happy to see my favorite mind map tool, vym or View Your Mind.
setup – Tools to configure, startup, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.,etc
edit – A very light text editor, more than adequate for my uses.
console – A nice terminal for command line work, like DOS, but better.
write – Abiword, a nice word processor, not quite Word but similar to MS Works.
calc – gnumeric, a good spreadsheet program
paint – A good image editor much like the one in windows accessories.
draw – Inkscape Lite, more than I expected, a nice vector drawing program with many of the capabilities of Illustrator.
browse – Sea Monkey Browser based on mozilla. All the expected goodies.
email – email with Sea Monkey
chat – Connect to the puppy support channel with IRC
plan – A nice calendar for scheduling, contacts, notes, etc
play – gxine, a media player, audio and video
connect – The Internet Connection Wizard. Instant connection to my netword and wireless was configured in a couple of minutes.
Very satisfactory. Three icons in the lower left let me click through to any of the files on my drive. Using the little zip drive allowed me to save files and also saved all the configurations, passwords, bookmarks, etc. so they were all there on the next boot. A right click on the desktop brought up a menu of categories. Choosing the internet option, I was able to telnet and ftp into my server sites. Bit torrent and many other features were there.
If you’re looking for a full featured operating system that will run on just about any computer, including a $59 one I bought at a used computer store, give Puppy a walk around the block. Besides, it’s fun.
Mp3 file editor for making my own ringtones?
I have tons of mp3 files onmy computer and can bluetooth them to my cell phone from my computer, but I want to be able to edit the mp3 files so that I can make 30-second ringtones out of them. Are there any good (and free) software downloads out there? Also, it has to be Mac compatible! If there are no free downloads available, I don’t want to have to pay more than $50 for one.

i would recommend you o try www.mymp3tone.com they have an online mp3 cutter/editor and you can edit the mp3 online at their site, and make your own ringtone out of it.this way, it doesnt make a difference if its a mac or not.the ringotnes, can then be downloaded through WAP directly to your mobile, for free.i’ve been using this site for a month now, and its been free.they dot take your mobile number anywhere in the process, so its secure as well.
